Are YOU Princess Material?

Do you know how to get regal?

by Cinse Bonino

Can you show your belly, have an eyebrow ring, and have a haircut that even a rapper can’t love and STILL be princess material? Absolutely. Being a princess is NOT about fitting some preconceived definition of pretty or proper, but it also is NOT about thinking you are better than everyone else.

Being a princess, according to The Princess Diaries' Mia Thermopolis is not about how you look, but about how you act and how you treat others.  Check out her Princess Lessons if you want to get regal.

A princess should always be gracious. Dictionary.com says that gracious means:

Characterized by kindness and warm courtesy. Characterized by tact and propriety: responded to the insult with gracious humor. Of a merciful or compassionate nature.

In other words, a girl who wants to act like a princess needs to be kind and compassionate EVEN when she’d rather make a big fuss. This does NOT mean that a princess is a pushover or a doormat. Instead it means that she is unselfish and gets that the world does NOT revolve around her. You know, she understands that life isn’t a movie with her in the starring role. She gets that we are ALL starring in our own movies of life!

Meanwhile, doing this gracious thing can be tricky. You can find yourself in all kinds of situations where it is EXTREMELY difficult to act like a princess. Mia, you remember her from Meg Cabot’s, The Princess Diaries, (maybe you saw the movie?), has lots to learn about becoming a princess in Princess Diaries, Volume IV: Princess in Waiting.

Which of these two situations that Mia faces in Princess in Waiting do you think YOU’D find most difficult to handle in a princess-like manner?

Mia’s grandmother gives her a book, a classic that she has absolutely NO desire to read and insists that she read it.

Mia has to meet the Prince of Wales and she has a giant zit on her face.

While most of us don’t go around meeting the Prince of Wales, we DO see guys that we want to impress just as much AND most of us have relatives that aren’t always easy to, shall we say, stomach? How well do YOU handle your everyday life? What are you made of? Is it princess material!? How would you handle being a real princess? Let’s find out…
