Get FLASHY for the holidays!

Just add silver, gold, or technology...

by Saundra Heath

The holiday season is just around the corner and you may be wondering what to wear or what to put on your holiday wish list. I thought I'd make it easy for you by suggesting some accessories that you can get or give without breaking your piggy bank. A couple of these ideas might also just bring out the crafty girl in you.

The holidays are ALL about glitz and glamour. So have some fun putting on the shine. Go for head-to-toe or just a dab-will-do-you, depending upon your social calendar, budget, and glitz-o-meter. Even if your calendar isn't packed with oh-so-many holiday events, there is nothing wrong with adding some glitz here and there to join in the holiday fashion fun.

The first rule of glitz -- go gold! You can never go wrong when you're looking to shine by adding some gold! During the holiday season you'll find tons of it. Add some holiday flare to a basic black look (velvet trousers and top) with a gold lame baseball cap or a simple, gold headband. Add the classic gold, glitter Dorothy (Wizard of Oz) ballet flats and you're good to go. Instead of the baseball cap or headband you may want to try big hoop earrings, duster earrings, or chandeliers. Any of these will dress up any one color look (especially basic black) and will work well with a simple dress be it short, bared, or long.

If you're not a gold fan or if you just want to try something different, go silver. You can rock silver for the holidays or anytime in the same way that you would rock gold. Experiment with rhinestones and sequins. Have fun going glam! Add a single accent like silver shoes to your favorite jean outfit. Think glamour for hat, gloves and muffler. In velvet, this combo will deliver real holiday luxury.

You can expect to see a lot of gold or silver metallic looks, rhinestones, sequins or beads as accents on T-shirts, jeans and purses. These make great gifts. Along with jewelry in uniquely shaped boxes. Feeling creative? Make some holiday headbands or barrettes. You can find fabric headbands and barrettes at craft or notions store. Add some beads, buttons, or appliqués to make a unique holiday statement.

Looking for an even more ingenious way to get noticed this holiday season? Get your hands on one of the Pager Light jackets by B. Lucid. These jackets feature a light strip that flashes along the arm when you get a page on your beeper. You never hear a beep, you just see the flashes. The technology also works without a pager and can be set for continuous flashing. Just think, you'll be the light of the party.
