The Milly Stories
by Janice Lindsay
published by DK Ink
131 pages

Twelve-year-old Milly lives with her Uncle Edgar and Aunt Gloria who run a funeral home. As if that's not weird enough, Aunt Gloria, a very strict guardian, suddenly passes away... but her constant advice won't go away! From Aunt Gloria's casket, Milly hears Stand up straight! And stop fidgeting!

Sometimes all this weirdness can leave Milly feeling very lonely.

In fact, Millie's entire family is a bit on the odd side. Uncle Edgar, when you get to know him, can be very mischievous -- like when he invites a real live dead person to Millie's Halloween party. Then Milly goes on an exciting road trip with her grandmother, a preacher -- on the back seat of Grandma's Harley-Davidson motorcycle. And her cousin, Blane the Brain, solves everyone's math problems while he sells ice cream from a truck.

How much do YOU let other people in? Find out why it's exciting AND scary to open your heart to others It Looks As If.

Even though they all love her, sometimes all this weirdness can leave Millie feeling very lonely. I was wishing I had my dolls to talk to tonight. At least I'd know what to say to them. Luckily, Milly is open-minded and creative and she meets a great friend, Josie, in a writing class. Together they have some wild adventures and grade everything and everyone on a weirdness index which Josie and her brother made up.

The Milly Stories is very funny and you will find yourself wishing you were there to join in. It also makes you reflect on the funny and exciting times you have had with your friends. It's a wonderful book and it will make you agree with Milly when she says, There's no such thing as enough books.
