Scary Dreams

By Jean Wiley

When you dream at night your mind is rehashing feelings and thoughts from the day's events. Often, what you suppress during the day will come to life in your dreamtime. Fear is a common feeling and experience for many people. Dreaming of your fears allows you to face them, gain insight on the inner workings of your heart and mind, and also, to problem solve.

Dear Jean,
I keep dreaming that a tornado is coming or a bomb is planted in our house and going to kill my family if I dont get them out of there. When I keep urging them to move it, they start talking to each other and taking a really long time to move. I am running around in circles yelling at them to MOVE! Right before the disaster happens I wake up. What does this mean?
Crystal

Dear Crystal,
Fear and concern take on many different forms in dreams. Dreaming of a tornado represents a situation that has you mentally upset. Air and wind represents the mind. When you dream of tornado's it represents tumultuous and destructive thoughts. Is there arguing and disagreement within your family? You are trying to keep your family safe from harm but feel they are not listening to you. Running around in circles indicates your frustration and fear that you are not being heard and are unable to solve the family problem. You fear that if things are not worked out it will become an "explosive" situation. Ideally, you need to be able to discuss this calmly and openly with your family and to try to resolve the situation. Wishing you sunny skies!

Dear Jean,
I dreamed I was in a jungle but it had gravel paths that you could walk on. When I walked down one path I saw Missy Eliot singing one of her songs. Down the other path were two VERY big snakes fighting. When the other snake left the big snake looked at me and started coming towards me with a sly look. Then it hissed and that was the end of the dream! What does this mean?
Danielle

Dear Danielle,
Jungles represent a situation that is dangerous and fearful. Your dream is telling you that you have a choice - to go down the path with harmony and creativity (Missy Eliot singing) or the path of fear and uncertainty (snakes fighting). These opposing forces seem to be within yourself. Snakes represent fear and less than noble behavior. Has someone not been honest with you? Have you been honest with yourself? The snake hissing is a warning that you can "control" the outcome. Conversely, if the snake had bitten you that would indicate that the damage had already been done. Take the high road and not the low.
