Nettiquette is the art of being polite while talking to people you have never met in person (and may never meet) and cannot see. Talk to those in chat rooms, bulletin boards, and discussion lists with honesty and good manners. Cussing, harassing, teasing and flaming (that is ganging up on someone and declaring them WRONG, usually including insults) only draws out the lowest common denominator. Staying out of fights and keeping behavior appropriate is the mark of someone who knows their way around. A good rule of thumb is to not say anything that you would be embarrassed to say on national TV.

If you write in capitals, it means you are shouting. This is not a good way to make friends. Save the caps for emphasis only. There are also lots of little short cuts for saying things such as: IMHO which stands for "in my humble opinion" Don't be shy about asking what these unfamiliar initials mean, using them cuts down on your keyboarding.

Emoticons are another form of short hand to express emotional states, such as the little smile you can make by keying in a colon and a right parentheses :)

See http://www.computeruser.com for short cuts, lingo and emoticons.
