Chris wants to know what's in her pants...
Dear Ms. KnowBODY,
I am 11 and I just started to find this yellowy white stuff on my underpants.
What is it?
Chris
Ms. KnowBODY says it's healthy...
Dear Chris,
That yellow/whitish stuff is called vaginal discharge, and it's totally normal!
The vagina produces this mucousy stuff to help your body stay clean, and flush
out any bacteria or germs that may have entered. Healthy vaginal secretions can
have a mild smell, or none at all. They can be clear, white or yellowish, and
are the consistency of mucous.
You may notice more than normal vaginal discharge at certain times:
- During ovulation (the middle of your menstrual cycle when an egg is released from your ovary)
- If you are pregnant
- When you take birth control pills
- When you are sexually aroused
Changes in your vaginal discharge can be a sign of infection. If you notice changes in the color, smell, or amount of discharge, along with itching or pain in the vaginal area, you may want to be examined by your health care provider.
Isn't your body amazing?
Healthy regards, Ms. KnowBODY
