I love the Oscars. I ALWAYS watch. I laugh. I cry. Some things are different from year to year... the movies and actors that get nominated, the songs, the host, and of course the clothes.
But one thing stays the same year after year...
They ALWAYS give the Oscar for best supporting actress before the Oscar for best supporting actor and the Oscar for best actress before the Oscar for best actor.
Why do they do it this way? Do you think it?s a ladies before gentlemen kind of thing? OR is it saving the best for last?
Would anyone notice if they did the actors first and the actresses last? I think they would! It?s not that this is such a BIG DEAL; it?s that people just accept it. I don?t think we should. I think that it?s important to ask ?Why?? and to not accept that it has to be this way. I think that the message here is that actors are MORE important than actresses. Can you imagine a world where there was one Oscar for best actor and all actors, male and female competed for it? Wouldn?t THAT be interesting?
I prefer calling all actors, just that, actors. That is after all what they are. It?s just that some of them happen to be male and some female. Anyway, let?s all take a lesson from watching Oscar... don?t just accept people or institutions putting women second.
