In the Bag

Aren't you just a little bit curious about what women and other girls carry in their bags?

What's inside a woman's purse is as intimate and identifiable as her signature. Director Lauren Malkasian and producer Amy Lemisch explore this phenomenon in the new documentary entitled In the Bag, which ran on the Oxygen network in March 2000.  In the Bag is a spirited exploration of the zipped up and snapped shut side of women.

The film pokes and probes into every kind of pocketbook of every kind of woman; from celebrity interviews with Sandra Bernhard, Phyllis Diller, Carol Kane, Roma Maffia and Anne Ramsey, to everyday women from all walks of life.  Like a new kind of archaeologists, the filmmakers have unearthed everything from the mundane to the bizarre: lipstick, panties, a TV star's chaotic appointment book, amulets, even a gun!

"It was amazing how much I learned about the women by way of their bags. It was like looking into the interior of a strangers life," says Malkasian. Lemisch adds, "through an everyday object, we were able to explore such universal issues as beauty, safety, sexuality, families - life."

In the Bag reveals the most private of female places. And like women themselves the film is breezy, smart, sexy, hilarious and poignant. Check it out!
