Canadian Teen Uses The Internet and The Hansons to Fight Cystic Fibrosis
Rebecca's cousin Rae-Anne was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis ten years ago. Since then, she and her family have been very active in the fight against this disease. In 1998, she decided to use the Internet as a weapon in addition to all the fund-raisers that her family holds off-line. She and Rae had just attended one of Hanson's Albertane Tour concerts in the summer of 1998, and Rebecca thought about starting a page for Hanson fans with cystic fibosis. Her mission was to get young people to learn about the disease. Her plan worked!!! Since July of 1998 her site has had over 26,000 hits. During the summer of 1999, her family was looking for donated articles to put in their CF silent auction. Rebecca decided that it would be cool to ask Hanson to contribute to it. Hanson sent her an autographed magazine that went for $250 in the auction. The following year, Rebecca contacted the band again and received an autographed copy of their then newest album, This Time Around. The CD was given away in a raffle which raised $370. This year, Rebecca is happy to announce that Hanson has donated another autographed magazine. The magazine will be given away in a raffle, at the end of a cystic fibrosis car wash on September 8th. The car wash will be at 2001 in Napierville, Québec, Canada, (near Montréal). There will be lots of Hanson music playing and they will be giving away Hanson singles to some lucky customers. 100% of what they raise will go directly to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
Every year, 99% of what they raise from the autographed items comes from advertising on the Internet. They get all kinds of sites to help advertise the raffle. The raffle and car wash were also in the latest news sections of both of Hanson's official sites, Hanson Site 1 & Hanson Site 2. Way to use the Internet for GOOD Rebecca!
